After a slight setback in Canberra last weekend, the Hurricanes' momentum is back on track following a commanding win over the Waratahs in Wellington tonight.

The Hurricanes' ninth victory of the season places them atop the Super Rugby Pacific table, six points ahead of second place. Additionally, TJ Perenara extended his record as the competition's leading try scorer, notching his 63rd career try right on the final whistle.

The Hurricanes launched an explosive start, securing three tries within the opening twenty minutes, before Salesi Rayasi's late brace sealed the triumph.

"We prepared all week for this result, and we're delighted to return home and deliver a performance for the home crowd and for each other," said Rayasi in an interview with Sky Sport.

While the Hurricanes faced some early challenges in the second half, Rayasi and the replacements ensured a stylish conclusion to the match.

"As substitutes, we aim to make a significant impact, maintaining the team's performance standards," Rayasi added.

Hurricanes captain Billy Proctor hailed the victory as a fitting response to last week's loss to the Brumbies.

"We started the game strong tonight, which was crucial to securing the win," Proctor said, acknowledging that while their performance wasn't flawless, they capitalized on their strengths.

"We were a bit sloppy at times, leaving points on the field. However, our strong start set the tone for the match," Proctor added.

He noted the increased competition for places within the squad following notable performances from players who hadn't seen much game time previously.

"It's a testament to the depth of talent we have. Coach Clark Laidlaw has quite the task ahead of him now," Proctor remarked.

The Hurricanes wasted no time making their mark on the game, with a powerful line break from Peter Lakai setting the stage for their first try.

The hosts continued their dominance, with Brett Cameron and Josh Moorby adding to the scoreboard in quick succession.

Despite a spirited effort from the Waratahs, the Hurricanes maintained their momentum, with Salesi Rayasi's exceptional back-to-back tries showcasing their attacking prowess.

While the Waratahs managed to score late consolation tries, the Hurricanes sealed their victory with Perenara's record-breaking try, cementing their place at the top of the table.

Scorers:

Hurricanes 41 (Rayasi 2, Proctor, Cameron, Iose, Moorby, Perenara tries; Cameron 3 cons)

Waratahs 12 (Karawalevu, Sinclair tries; Edmund 1 con)
