London Mayoral Election 2024: Natalie Campbell Advocates for a CEO Approach, Not Politics

Natalie Campbell, an independent candidate vying for London mayor, advocates for a "CEO's approach" in leading the capital, citing the broken party-political system. Hailing from north-west London, Campbell serves as the co-CEO of Belu Water, a social enterprise, and has held the position of chancellor at the University of Westminster since 2022. In an interview with The Independent, she expressed her deep affection for the city but acknowledged its inadequacies for the majority of its residents.

"There's a £17 billion budget allocated to ensure people have the chance to live well, yet it's being completely wasted under the current mayor. At 15, I resolved to witness change in this city. London should have progressed since then, but regrettably, I don't see evidence of it."

Ms. Campbell criticized both the Labour and Conservative candidates, asserting that the party-political system prioritizes the interests of power within a party rather than serving the people.

"Unlike politicians, a CEO recognizes that ultimate responsibility rests with them," she remarked. "As an independent candidate, I am not beholden to any political party. Londoners are my priority; they are my bosses, and I am unequivocal about that."

"Contrary to politicians, a CEO understands that the buck stops and ends with them."

Ms. Campbell committed to matching current mayor Sadiq Khan's promise to construct 40,000 homes by the decade's end.

"Place the appropriate homes in the appropriate locations to avoid displacing existing communities," she emphasized.

The independent candidate proposed implementing "hyper-local policing," establishing 320 new police neighborhood centers on the high streets of the capital.

Ms. Campbell additionally announced her intention to implement a "tourist tax" to support her commitment to eradicate youth homelessness within her initial term.

"I envision a London free from party interference, and with my CEO's approach, I have developed a viable strategy to restore London's essence," she shared with The Independent.

Her primary manifesto pledges include:

- Transparency in budget allocation, ensuring every penny is accounted for and collaborating with Londoners instead of working against them.

- Provision of good homes and fostering happy neighborhoods through the construction of 40,000 affordable homes available for purchase and rent.

- Commitment to ending youth homelessness in London by the year 2028.

- Establishment of 320 new neighborhood centers equipped with community support services, strategically located on high streets.

- Support for freelancers and entrepreneurs, alongside guaranteeing every young individual access to high-quality employment opportunities aligning with their ambitions.

- Aspiring for London to lead globally in environmental conservation and ensuring an affordable and fair transport system.
